Exhibition Overview

Good Design Exhibition 2014 at Tokyo Midtown from October 31 to November 4 introduce this year’s winning entries in Japan’s renowned Good Design Award program.
An international design event drawing many visitors from Japan, Asia, and beyond, the exhibition introduces all winning entries for the year, as submitted by designers and companies from Japan and around the world. The broad scope of design evaluated in the program now spans both hardware (in the form of manufactured products, architecture, and much more) and software (including applications and content) and extends to urban development, CSR activities, and other spheres. This makes the winning entries quite diverse, yet all will be on display at Good Design Exhibition 2014.
Visitors can also see special exhibitions by design-focused companies, watch presentations by eminent invited designers, and purchase award-winning products. Overall, the event is viewed by the organizer as an opportunity to demonstrate the power of good design at work in society.

Searching for “Quality of Comfort”

Our life abounds in technologies and techniques. They might be the outcome of competition for progress and pursuit of high technology, but when utilized for truly practical and useful products and services, they bring us ease and pleasure. At the same time, the feelings of reassurance and reliability that come from things that have been ingrained in our senses are also indispensable part of our day-to-day life. These feelings can all be summed up as “comfort,” and “quality of comfort” is what design should develop now. We hope that through the G Exhibition, more people find the higher level of “quality of comfort.”

What exactly is "good design"?

What would you consider "good design" to be? There are times when we buy things we think we love, only to stop using them within a year's time. Was that product really well-designed? By contrast, there are some things we buy without a second thought, only to realize we've been using them for ten years and more. If an item breaks immediately after you buy it, is that a technical issue? Or does it come down to a design flaw? What exactly is "good design"? We invite you to view the G Exhibition and consider with us what good design means and how it can enhance our lives.
